In 2019, test excavations at Latnija Cave revealed a uniquely deep prehistoric sequence, leading to the commencement of detailed excavations from 2021, supported by the University of Malta’s Research Excellence Fund, a European Research Council Starting Grant, and the National Geographic Society. The discoveries at the site have revolutionized understanding of Maltese Prehistory in unlooked for ways. With the first set of results under embargo until 9th April 2025, this series of short talks will be the first to give a detailed overview of the nature and importance of the discoveries at Latnija Cave, both for Malta and Europe. Talks will include an overview from the project principal investigator Prof. E. Scerri, followed by a focus on the material culture of the site by Dr H. Groucutt, the fauna from the sire by Dr M. Mata-González, and concluding thoughts on the significance of the discoveries by the project’s co-investigator Prof. N. Vella.
